Arthrosis (joint wear)

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease in which the cartilage in the joint breaks down and the bones rub against each other. There are several ways to treat the symptoms of osteoarthritis and slow the progression of the disease.

  • Exercise and physiotherapy
Exercise can help to stabilize and strengthen the joints. Targeted physical therapy can help improve joint mobility and flexibility and relieve pain.
  • Weight reduction
If you are overweight, weight reduction can help to reduce the strain on the joints and improve the symptoms of osteoarthritis.
  • Medication
Pain medication such as paracetamol and NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) can be taken to relieve the pain. In some cases, injections of cortisone or hyaluronic acid can also help.
  • Surgery
In severe cases, surgery may be necessary to replace or repair the affected joint.
  • Alternative therapies
Some patients find relief through alternative therapies such as acupuncture, massage or relaxation exercises.

It is important that the therapy is individually tailored to the patient and is carried out in consultation with a physician. Early diagnosis and treatment of osteoarthritis can also help slow the progression of the disease and relieve pain.
